The History of Tobyhanna Army Depot
The depot has served the US nation for over an astonishing 52 years, since having opened on February the 1st 1953, after following two years of hard laborious construction. Nevertheless, the Army has carefully maintained an almost continuous presence within Tobyhanna since early 1912, when the depot was first used as a camp for artillery training. Other uses for the area included a World War II prisoner-of-war camp, a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp, a storage point for gliders that were used in the D-Day landings of Normandy back in 1944 and also artillery trainings for West Point cadets.
